In the bible, the word “talent” is used several times to mean a form of currency. I thought about that and was fascinated by the use of the word then and how we use it today. (2 Chronicles 9:9, And she gave the king a hundred and twenty talents of gold, and of spices great abundance, and precious stones: neither was there any such spice as the queen of Sheba gave King Solomon) Having recently dealt with a pretty major setback in life, I realized that we are often faced with situations that can strike a mighty blow against our faith, confidence and personal identity. But, after regaining my footing and getting up stronger and “badder” than ever, I realized that this is one thing that no person can take away…my talent/skill! Your talent IS your currency! It is your built-in currency that is used to barter OUT THERE! It is NO accident there are some things that you JUST do well! Some folks just sing well, others can sell anything to anybody at any time, still others can give hope to the hopeless in a five minute conversation. Whatever that thing is, THAT IS YOUR CURRENCY, your mission is to use that DIVINE currency to have a life that YOU DESIRE, NOT what THEY tell you your time and skills are worth! Here's the bonus - DIVINE talent/currency brings all kinds of goodies with it like fulfillment, exponential increase, ease, grace, joy, massive abundance and indestructibility.
